Super Mom Blog Syndrome

Does this ever happen to you? You start to read other mom blogs ranging in topics from staying in shape, homeschooling, couponing and being frugal, living green, homesteading, or anything that interests you! You then think, “Wow, she’s just a mom like me! I can do what she does and benefit from it like her also!”

Wish this was you? Yeah, me too.

Now, three weeks later when you are trying to implement all this into your life, you wonder where you went wrong because it just isn’t working like it as working for them. I fall victim to this often. My dear husband has seen me go from near extreme couponing to not clipping coupons for months. Then we are eating all whole foods for a few months, and then enters the box of mac and cheese. This spring I started a beautiful garden with a number of vegetables, and all we got from it was kale. (I have to say, kale is one hardy plant. That thing is still growing after weeks of not being watered, and a couple night frosts!)

So, what happened? At least what happens in my case is I forget this mom’s blog is focused on just a couple things. When I take in multiple blogs, I’m taking on far more than this one person is describing. I could be wrong, but I’m don’t think you are going to find a savant that fully embraces extreme couponing, has a green thumb, creates all her homeschool lessons by hand, cooks from scratch three meals a day, and keeps her blog running beautifully every day. If she does exist, please never introduce her to my husband… He thinks it can’t all be done and I would like it to stay that way, thankyouverymuch.

So, my humble advice from a mom who loves homeschooling, but hates grading papers; loves a deal, but dreads the hours of coupon clipping and sale matching just to find they are all out; and cooks from scratch 95% of the time, but loves a shortcut when it comes her way, is this:

Find out what is important to you and your family and focus on that. The rest of it is just bonus.

What’s important to your family? What is your focus?
